The factors mentioned below assign an overall score out of 100:

1. Language Proficiency (offers a maximum of 28 points)

This is a very important and a crucial aspect for an individual to immigrate to Canada. For applying for a PR Visa under the express entry system, an individual needs to be proficient in either one of the two official languges of Canada, i.e., English or French. To prove this proficiency, the candidate must produce test results of the IELTS which are only valid for two years. The candidate must also score a minimum band of 6 in the same. The higher band is equal to higher points scored in the Express Entry CRS Calculator. A person applying for a Canadian Permanent Residency must be able to communicate in one or both of Canada’s official languages. Knowing English, French or both will help a candidate in the Canadian job market.
An applicant can get up to 28 points for his/her language skills in English and French. The points are based on his/her ability to:

  • Read
  • Write
  • Listen
  • Speak
Language testing
One must take an approved language test to prove his/her language skills, i.e., IELTS or CELPIP.
To measure one’s English or French skill levels, the following is used as a benchmark :
  • Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English
  • Niveaux de Compétence Linguistique Canadians (NCLC) for French

One must score a minimum level of CLB 7 or NCLC 7 for one official language in all four language areas. To score points for the second official language, a candidate must meet the minimum level of CLB 5 or NCLC 5 in all four language areas.

Calculate your language points

  1. The first official language offers a maximum of 24 points. A candidate scores points according to what matches his/her skill level in that particular language.
  2. The second official language offers a maximum of 4 points. A candidate must score at least CLB 5 in all the 4 abilities so he/she is awarded with 4 points. CLB 4 or less in any of the 4 abilities results in the candidate getting 0 points.

2. Education (offers a maximum of 25 points)

A decent educational qualification is important in any field. An individual should at least be a graduate or hold a diploma to apply for the Canadian PR visa. A candidate is awarded a maximum of 25 points based on his education if he/she has a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian Secondary institution (high school) or a Canadian Post-secondary institution. If an applicant has a foreign education, he/she must have Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report for immigration purposes from a designated organization showing that your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution.

The points are allotted on the basis of an applicants’ age on the day his/her application is submitted.

Although this factor isn’t compulsory, it surely is an added advantage to an individual who is applying for a Canadian PR under the Federal express entry system, if he has a prior job in Canada. An applicant can get points if they have a job offer of at least 1 year from a Canadian employer. He/she must get the job offer before he/she applies to come to Canada as a Federal Skilled Worker.
A valid job offer has to be continuous, paid, full-time work i.e., a minimum of 30 hours per week. The job offer has to be non seasonal and at least valid for a year. The offer also has to be in an occupation listed as Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the NOC (National Occupation Classification) code.

7. Additional Express Entry CRS Calculator Points:
