United Kingdom Youth Mobility Visa
United Kingdom Youth Mobility Scheme, also known as a work permit visa, is specially for young applicants who would like to live, work or study in UK.
This visa is valid for up to two years and suitable for the people age between 18-30.
Once your visa is approved, you can enter and leave the UK at any time while the visa is valid.
You can only secure this visa once, and when it’s activated you will not be able to apply for it again.
You can apply for this visa within six months before you travel to the UK.
United Kingdom Youth Mobility Visa Eligibility
- You can apply for a United Kingdom Youth Mobility Visa if you’re aged between 18 to 30.
- You can also apply if you’re 18 to 30 and a: British Overseas Citizen, British Overseas Territories Citizen, British National (Overseas)
- You cannot apply if you have: Children under the age of 18 who live with you, Children who are financially dependent on you.
- Already been in the UK under the scheme.
United Kingdom Youth Mobility Visa Documentation Requirement
To make a successful application you will need to provide:
- A current passport or other valid travel documentation.
- Your tuberculosis test results if you come from a country where you are required to take the test.
- Your endorsement letter.
- Pay the immigration health surcharge and the application fee.

You can apply for the Youth Mobility program from your home country or from a country where you are staying in at the time of application, however you need to have permission to be in that country for longer than 6 months
This is something of a rarity and is clearly aimed at young people who wish to travel and work/study at the same time. Unfortunately if you wish to stay in the UK after the end of your 24 month visa period, you will have to return to your country of origin and apply for a new visa.
The immigration rules state that the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa is granted for up to 24 months but it cannot be extended. And, unfortunately, it is not possible to apply for a Tier 2 work visa if you are still in the UK; this can only be completed from your home country.
Who can switch into a spouse visa? Anyone who was granted a visa (Entry Clearance of Leave to Remain) for six months or more in total can apply for a spouse visa in the UK. Tier 4 students and Tier 5 (Youth Mobility) visa holders are included and switching from these categories is quite common.
