Special Immigrant Category 2(National of Iraq or Afghanistan)

Special Immigrant category is for migrants who fall under special conditions depending on their country of origin and their contribution towards USA. The special Immigrants can be divided into three categories as:-

1) Employment: Iraqi or Afghan translator or interpreters

-This program has been designed for the Iraqi and Afghan national who worked with the U.S. Armed Forces or under Chief of Mission authority as a translator or interpreter. Only 50 places each fiscal year are reserved under this category of special immigrants.

To be eligible to apply for this visa you must:

  • Be a national of Iraq or Afghanistan; and
  • have worked directly with the U.S. Armed Forces or under COM authority as a translator or interpreter for a period of at least 12 months
  • Obtained a favourable written recommendation from a General or Flag Officer in the chain of command of the U.S. Armed Forces unit that was supported by you, as a translator or interpreter, or from the Chief of Mission from the embassy where you worked.

Fee:-

For applicants filing through the Nebraska Service Centre while residing outside the United States, the Form I-360 fee is $375.00

2) Employment: Iraqis- worked for/on behalf U.S. Government –This program is for the citizens of Iraq who have worked for or on behalf of the US Army starting from 20th March 2003 till 30th Sep 2013 and have experienced or are experiencing threat due to their employment with US Army.

To be eligible to apply for this visa you must:

  • Be citizen of Iraq.
  • Have been employed by, or on behalf of, the U.S. Government in Iraq on or after March 20, 2003 and prior to September 30, 2013, for a period of one year or more.
  • Provided faithful and valuable service to the U.S. Government, which is documented in a letter of recommendation from your supervisor.
  • Have experienced or are experiencing threat due to their employment with US Army.

Fee:-

There is no immigrant visa application fee for this category.

3) Employment: Afghan- worked for/on behalf U.S. Government This program is for the citizens of Afghanistan who have worked for or on behalf of the US Army starting from 7th October 2001 till date and have experienced or are experiencing threat due to their employment with US Army. Total 1500 places each fiscal year are reserved under this category of special immigrants.

To be eligible to apply for this visa you must:

  • Be citizen of Afghanistan
  • Have been employed by, or on behalf of, the U.S. Government in Afghanistan after October 7th, 2001 for a period of one year or more.
  • Provided faithful and valuable service to the U.S. Government, which is documented in a letter of recommendation from your supervisor.
  • Have experienced or are experiencing threat due to their employment with US Army.

There is no immigrant visa application fee for this category.
